Gran Hotel Claridge Granada
A return to Nasrid luxury
For centuries, Granada was the gateway for luxury into Europe. Today, Gran Hotel Claridge Granada 5* recaptures this splendour and places it at your disposal. Our hotel stands upon the remains of the historic Genoese Trading Post (Alhóndiga de los Genoveses), an 11th-century enclave that was a centre for international commerce right in the heart of the Nasrid Kingdom.
Theorigin of a legacy
The Alhóndiga de los Genoveses
In the 11th century, this location witnessed the exchange of silks, spices, and exotic essences that defined the luxury of the Nasrid Kingdom. Situated next to the Great Mosque (Mezquita Mayor) and the most important souks—the Zacatín, the Alcaicería, and Elvira Street (calle Elvira)—the alhóndiga became the epicentre of business and the residence of the Genoese community, drawn by the exclusive brilliance that only Granada could offer. Today, we honour that legacy by integrating its archaeological remains into the hotel’s contemporary experience.
A journey to the past
History that is part of your stay
Before the hotel was constructed, an exhaustive archaeological excavation was carried out, which allowed for the recovery of the alhóndiga’s original remains.
Today, these foundations and walls form part of a visitable archaeological gallery inside the hotel, a unique space where you can trace centuries of history and feel how contemporary luxury dialogues with the grandeur of the past.
Sleeping upon centuries of history
A homage to nasrid splendour
“For centuries, this was the gateway to luxury across Europe. Today, we open it for you once again.” With this philosophy, we have created a space where the splendour of yesterday merges with contemporary comfort and sophistication. Our rooms and suites are conceived as a tribute to this extraordinary past, combining the comfort of the present with the memory of a city that was a melting pot of cultures and the capital of luxury in Europe.
